Today is the day. After almost a year of planning, packing, selling, stressing, hoping, and holding onto a dream that sometimes felt too big to be ours, we are finally doing this.

Nearly twelve months ago, we made a decision as a family to trade our regular Australian life for something completely different. We wanted a new beginning built around travel, time together, exploring the world, playing golf, discovering new foods, learning new cultures and languages, and world schooling our kids along the way.

It sounded wild. It sounded impossible. But it felt right.

The Year That Got Us Here

The past year has been full of challenges. Interest rate hikes. A tough housing market. Endless paperwork. Endless decisions. Days where we questioned everything. Months where every time we solved one problem, another one appeared.

But we kept going.

We sold our home. We quit our jobs. We packed up our entire life in Australia, every memory and every comfort, and prepared ourselves for something completely new.

And now, after all of that, we are standing here on the day it becomes real.

Getting Ready for Full Time Travel

Preparing for full-time travel was a whole journey on its own. Our passports had expired, so we had to start fresh with new applications for the whole family. We have spent months organising flights, accommodation, transfers, and experiences. Every detail mattered because this is not a holiday. This is our new life.

We also had to figure out how to stay connected while travelling long term. Airalo made that part simple. Using an e‑sim means we can land in a new country and have instant data without hunting for SIM cards or dealing with airport chaos. We have a feeling it will become one of our favourite travel tools.

For transfers and experiences, Klook has helped us feel prepared. Booking reliable drivers (hopefully), day trips, and activities ahead of time has taken away so much stress. It has given us some confidence that even in a brand new country, we will have support and structure when we need it.

All of these steps, all of this planning, all of this effort has led to today.

First Stop: Vietnam

Our adventure begins in Vietnam, a country we have been drawn to for years. The food, the people, the history, the energy. Everything about Vietnam has fascinated us, and now we finally get to experience it firsthand.

We do not know exactly what the next months will look like. We do not know where every step will lead. But that is the beauty of it.

We are choosing curiosity over comfort. Adventure over routine. A life lived together, not just beside each other.

Come With Us

Fairway Footprints is more than a travel blog. It is our family’s story in motion. The highs, the lows, the golf courses, the chaos, the culture shocks, the food discoveries, the moments that make us laugh, and the moments that make us question everything.

We are inviting you to follow along as we learn, grow, explore, and figure out what full time travel as a family really looks like.

This is the beginning of our biggest adventure yet. And we are so ready.
